چکیده

In the 1950”s, Professor Lars Leksell of the Karolinska Institute in Sweden coined the term “radiosurgery” to define a neurosurgical procedure that combined precision targeting with a large number of cross-fired beams of ionizing radiation. By directing a very large dose of highly collimated radiation at a discrete location in the brain, the objective of Leksell’s operation was to make a lesion (ablate brain tissue) without “cutting”, arguably thereby achieving the ultimate in minimally-invasive surgery. At the time (1950’s and 60’s) the clinical motivation for such a procedure was a class of operations broadly referred to as functional neurosurgery which includes thalamotomy for the tremor of Parkinson’s disease and anterior capsulotomy for treating obsessivecompulsive disorder.

The Cyberknife ® M 6 TM Radiosurgery System Jeffrey

Lancaster General Health is the first institution in the United States to have the next generation CyberKnife made by Accuray Inc., the M6 series (Fig. 1). The CyberKnife utilizes non-invasive stereotactic radiosurgery to deliver precise, high doses of radiation to targets anywhere in the body. Recent studies have shown that stereotactic radiosurgery offers high rates of tumor control with mini...

SU-E-T-642: Safety Procedures for Error Elimination in Cyberknife Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) and Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT).

PURPOSE Cyberknife system is used for providing stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) hypofractionation scheme. The whole treatment delivery is based on live imaging of the patient. The minor error made at any stage may bring severe radiation injury to the patient or damage to the system itself. Several safety measures were taken to make the system safer...

Successful treatment of non-small cell lung tumor with 15 lesions by CyberKnife radiosurgery: A case report

Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) plays an important role in the treatment of early stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), particularly when patients are unable to tolerate surgical resection due to comorbid conditions or are unwilling to undergo surgery. High rates of local tumor control that may rival the results of surgery have been demonstrated in certain cases with the practica...

CyberKnife in the treatment of prostate cancer: a revolutionary system.

The CyberKnife is a frameless advanced robotic system that uses image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) and adaptive radiotherapy (ART) for stereotactic radiosurgery technique in intraand extracranial lesions. The CyberKnife has also revolutionised the use of radiosurgery to treat tumours in different parts of the body. This system represents, after three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT), a ...
